Folly Theater critique #4
I made a lot of progress on my jazz posters over the weekend. I’ve been researching some unique/atypical ways to notate music and the results are quite inspiring. John Cage and Robert Kirkpatrick both have texts written about their compositions and how they can write music without using the everyday music notes.
These simple shapes and patterns instantly reminded me of type and how it is constructed. I started experimenting with how the typographical shapes and musical shapes can interact with each other and ended up with the below series. Cutting out pieces of the letters helped the two elements interact and added depth to the composition. I plan on doing several iterations of these to focus more on the individual artists. Need to add more detail in the typography and background shapes. Planning on also playing with color.
